Round 6 of the Florida State Electric State Series (FSEARA) was held at Superior Hobbies in Orlando, FL. Superior Hobbies is one of the premier hobby shops in Florida and their parking lot track always provides for good racing and a strong amount of race entries. Despite the constant threat of Florida weather, with almost a 100% chance of rain forecasted, it did not rain at all and the program ran smoothly all day.

This round was the Michael Bruce show, taking the win in both Boosted 17.5 and Open Mod. The win in Open Mod was an uneventful one for the Revtech team driver and Superior local Michael. He TQ’d and lead the entire main. The battle was for 2nd place, were Austin Harrison got past second place qualifier TJ Lathrop. Austin eventually flipped off the track allowing Michael and TJ to sail to a 1-2 finish, with Austin rounding off the podium.

The stock classes had some of the best racing of the season. In Boosted 17.5, Corally team driver and Superior local TJ Bradley took the TQ and the early lead in the main. 2010 Reedy Race champion Dave Bowser was close on his tail, but only 1 minute into the race, both drivers pulled their cars from the race after accidents. The battle quickly formed between Michael Bruce, who took over the lead, with Cory Parsons riding his bumper for the rest of the race. After some dramatic side by side drag races down the straightaway, Michael was able to maintain his lead and secure the win over second place Cory Parsons.

In Blinky 17.5, Cory Parsons again applied the pressure on TQ holder Kyle Eden. The entire 6 minute race was a very exciting battle between these two for the lead. After a small bobble from Kyle, Cory was able to take the lead from Kyle. However, shortly after, Cory made a mistake and Kyle regained the lead for the rest of the race, taking the win by just 0.1 seconds ahead of Cory.

Round 5 of the FSEARA (Florida State Electric Auto Racing Association) series took place at K-Raceway in Kissimmee, FL, the same track as the 2004 IFMAR 1/10 & 1/12 worlds. FSEARA at K-Raceway is the event that most racers are waiting for all year and George Martinez did an amazing job in getting the track ready for the weekend. Due to the fast s-turn before the straight, there were many accidents during practices and another problem racers had was overheating motors, the long back straight requiring racers to hold full throttle for 5 sec. With the Florida heat the average temperature of the motor was 200F degree.

In Modified, it was the Felix Law show all weekend with his Hot Bodies TCX. With the only 22 lap run & a new track record of 13.7sec, Felix showed his speed by destroying last years track record by over a second on the same layout. The closest driver to Felix was Cory Parsons follow by Michael Bruce. In the A main, Felix took advantage of the pole position & led the field while the battle for second between Cory & Michael continued. At the half way mark, Cory’s Xray had a motor failure allowing Michael to take 2nd. In the last min of the race, Felix had a 5 sec lead on second but made a mistake on the switch back & flipped over. That mistake allowed Michael to take the lead with 45 seconds left in the race. Felix quickly recovered & the intense battle began. The Team Power 4.0 motor allowed Felix to quickly catch up with Michael and he made a pass at the end of the straight with less than 2 laps to go to take the win. Michael Bruce finish 2nd only 1 second behind & TJ Lathrop finish 3rd.

In Pro Stock, it was an intense qualifying between the top 3 drivers. In the 1st round of qualifying, Corally driver TJ Bradley driving the all new HMX took the early lead. In the 2nd qualifier there were 6 other drivers on pace to beat TJ’s TQ, but all had a motor failure. In the 3rd qualifier, Troy Schafer driving the Associated TC6 had the lead the entire qualifier on TQ pace. Just about finished, Michael Bruce driving the Tamiya 417x took the lead & got the overall TQ on the last lap. The top 3 drivers were separated by only .002 sec. In the A main all 3 drivers kept their pace just like in qualifying, Michael had the early lead, but troy didn’t let him off early in the race. While those 2 battled, TJ had another challenge from Dave Franklin. At the half way mark, Michael using his Revtech 17.5 high TQ 12.3 rotor motor was able to keep his temp right below 200F, while Troy had a problem with motor temp, falling off pace. TJ slowly caught up with Troy for the battle of 2nd to the end. Finally, Michael Bruce took 1st by 1 second over Troy Schafer in 2nd who was only .4sec ahead of TJ Bradley in 3rd.

Round 4 of the FSEARA (Florida State Electric Auto Racing Association) took place at Minnreg in Largo, FL. Minnreg is an indoor carpet track, one of the few in Florida. Every year, Mike Boylan hosts this race as the warm up to the annual Snowbird Nationals in Orlando, FL and this warm up race attracted many locals & out of town racers. From Friday to Sunday, there are both oval & on road events to prepare for the 400+ entry Snowbird Nationals. This on road event alone had about 70+ entries, making this an important on road race to attend.

In Stock Touring, the 2010 ROAR National Champion Mark Burt was able to use his “very old” equipment to grab the TQ over the current Stock Touring point leader Kyle Eden. Mark Burt’s smooth driving style allowed him to set the bench mark in qualifying, but Kyle was just a couple of seconds behind Mark. In the A final, Mark Burt was able to hold off Kyle’s intense charges. Kyle had the faster car in both speed & cornering, but every time Kyle got close to Mark, the smallest mistake cost Kyle. In the end, it was Xray 1 & 2, with Mark winning the race, Kyle in second place, just 3 seconds behind and Eddie Shaffer finishing 3rd.

In Pro Stock Touring, it was another battle of the Xrays. Young Xray team driver Cory Parsons set a blistering pace in qualifying with a 32 lap run, taking the TQ. Cory was followed closely by 2nd qualifier Austin Harrison and 3rd qualifier Dave Bowser, another Xray team driver. In the A final, the top 3 qualifiers had a great start, with a tight battle between all 3. While the back of the pack were having some issues, Bobby Horan slipped by for the 4th position. Out in front, Cory continued to lead, while Austin made a mistake and got stuck on a pipe, Dave took advantage and moved to 2nd. A few laps later, Austin made another mistake and flew off the track, allowing Bobby to grab 3rd. Cory Parsons took the win, beating his own TQ run from qualifying, with Dave Bowser finishing 2nd and Bobby Horan finishing 3rd.

In Modified Touring, it was the battle between Austin Harrison vs Hot Bodies team driver Felix Law all weekend. In qualifying, Austin was able to put down an impressive run in the 2nd round of qualifying, taking TQ honors with a 4 second lead on Felix Law. Michael Bruce qualified 3rd, with a gap between him and Felix. In the A final, Felix was bumper to bumper against Austin. 4 laps into the race, both drivers hit lapped traffic. Felix saw an opening while Austin dodged traffic, and Felix made a pass after the switch back. Around the same time, Xray team driver T.J. Lathrop made a pass on Michael Bruce for the 3rd position. After passing Austin, Felix continued to pull away from the field. By the 4 minute mark Austin made a charge to catch Felix but a small mistake didn’t allow him to get by Felix. In the end Felix Law finished 1st with Austin Harrison 2nd and T.J. Lathrop 3rd

Michael Bruce & Austin Harrison win FSEARA Rd2

The Florida State Electric Auto Racing Association (FSEARA) hosted their 2nd race in their 7 race series in FL at Strickland RC Raceway. This track is famous for its tire wear and so tire strategy is the key to win and many racers conserve their limited control tires in qualifying. The new tires only last one qualifier, which mean you only have one chance to set your fastest time. Most racers end up saving the 2nd set of tires for the final and it helped create some fast & exciting final to watch at this event.

In Open Modified, Michael Bruce was able to put an impressive run in his 1st qualifier setting the pace to beat after a bad day of practice. Michael Bruce’s Revtech power Tamiya 417 looking good on Sunday gapping the overall TQ with 2 second over Austin Harrison, the winner of the last FSEARA race.

In the A Final, Michael Bruce had a clean start while 2nd qualifier Austin had a issue, hitting the pipe in the second corner letting Felix Law take over 2nd. During the 1 min mark Felix Law made a mistake letting Michael extend his lead to 3 second, while Austin put on an impressive run coming back from dead last. At the 3 minute Mark, Austin tried to put a pass on Felix, but it ended up to be a disaster, sending Felix flying off the track. Austin show his sportsmanship by letting Felix recover and the show continued. In the last min of the A final, Felix was able to drive his Hot Bodies TCX closing the gap between him & Michael, but in the end Michael still won the race by 1 second over Felix while Austin finished 3rd 2 second behind.

In Pro Stock, Troy Schafer driving the Team Associated TC6 had a good weekend at Daytona. His well balanced TC6 continues the domination in the qualifier on Sunday. With the 27 lap run, He was able hold the TQ, away from last year stock champ Dave Bowser & last race winner Austin Harrison.

In the A Final, Troy Schafer started to extend the lead, while Dave Bowser battled against Austin for 2nd. At the 1 min mark, Austin made a small mistake letting Dave take over 2nd hunting down Troy. At the 2 min mark, Troy made a mistake letting Dave close the gap to .5 sec. Two laps later, a small hit from Dave caused Troy to spin out, Austin took advantage, passing both of them for 1st. Without waiting for Troy, Dave quickly tries to catch up to Austin. At the 3min 30sec mark Dave made a move on Austin. At the 4 min mark, the pace of the 2 drivers started to slow down due to tire wear and Austin started to catch Dave again. The drama begin around 4min 20sec when 2 drivers going down the back straight with Austin taking an inside line & Dave drift out slightly, Austin sent Dave flying of the track. It was just too close to call, but the race continues. Dave joins the race again in 3rd place behind Troy. At the Last min, Dave was able to catch troy, having an intense battle for 2nd. In the end, Dave wasn’t able to make the move and finished 3rd overall, Troy finished 2nd & Austin winning the 2nd round of the FSEARA.
